I am a writer and teacher. I love books for kids, art, maps. Science and math are great interests, including the surprisingly powerful and persistent.

I have taught young people for many years. I always loved books for kids better than any other literature because they ask the very hardest questions and face the truth of life straight on. I write nonfiction as well as fiction.

I love being in nature under a big sky or a low tree, on a trail or in a kayak. I live with my family in California but travel the country as much as I can.
